The application of the MES system truly realizes the implementation of a workstation-based, rhythmic production method in the manufacturing process, serving as an indispensable and powerful support system for lean manufacturing. From the perspective of MES system application, its value analysis mainly manifests in:
(1) A workstation-based MES enterprise-level information management platform was established as the daily business operation and management platform for product manufacturing and related departments. This includes:
MES system business process management: enables scientific management, standardized operation, and efficient execution of business processes in all aspects such as production, quality, materials, supply, and technology; provides full-process management functions for business processes, including process streamlining, optimization, and solidification;
MES system information acquisition and management: Enables process tracking and management of operations and management business; Quickly and accurately collects relevant data such as on-site workstations, personnel, machinery, materials, methods, environment, and measurement, as well as relevant real-time production information, providing effective monitoring means and optimization support for management;
MES system information resource management: enables workstations to easily access the necessary process documents, inspection standards, process standards and other relevant materials or information support; and enables rapid query and traceability of information at all stages of production and quality.
MES system knowledge accumulation and management: A knowledge and experience accumulation and inheritance system has been established, and relevant data has been effectively recorded and inherited; standardized management and query functions for documents and materials have been established, and relevant documents are solidified and transmitted through electronic processes.
(2) The MES system realizes an integrated, electronic, networked and intelligent lean production mode, improving on-site execution and management level.
Integration: Integrating isolated and fragmented business processes and activities into a unified management system changes the fragmented information across different workstations, effectively strengthening the management of the entire product realization process;
Digitalization: Transforming traditional business models that rely on paper records, manual transmission, and manual statistics into paperless and electronic operating models; streamlining business processes and structuring forms to improve business efficiency and the effectiveness of business implementation;
Networking: Integrating with other systems to eliminate information silos, building a company-level management information network, forming a networked information transmission, business execution, and monitoring environment; improving the informatization level of the manufacturing environment, and feeding back real-time production information to upstream systems to achieve closed-loop management of the entire company;
Intelligentization: Enables gate management at all stages of production (before, during, and after); automatically integrates and analyzes various types of information, providing it to managers in real time to assist in management decisions; dynamic electronic dashboard management enables data-driven, refined, intelligent, and visual monitoring and decision-making.
(3) The MES system has optimized and improved existing business processes, forming a new business model under the information system:
Clearer responsibilities: Through integration with ERP and other systems, on-site barcode scanning for material receipt, effective tracking and monitoring of exception transfers, and effective gate management, the division of responsibilities between departments becomes clearer. Whether it is a warehouse issue or a workstation issue, or a problem with the previous or next workstation, it is immediately clear, avoiding many problems of unclear responsibilities.
Quantitative Performance Evaluation System: Through integration with the SMS platform, various on-site issues are effectively and in real time transmitted to relevant functional departments. This changes the previous work model of departmental responses to on-site issues, and the response status of each department to the production site is accurately recorded, improving the means of quantifying personnel performance evaluation and optimizing the response speed to on-site problems. For example, quality inspectors can go to the site to provide service immediately upon receiving an SMS, greatly improving response time and efficiency, making performance evaluation more effective and quantifiable.
MES systems enable managers to access real-time information and make clearer decisions: various data from the workstations are recorded in real time and reported to relevant leaders through various display methods, changing the work mode of leaders listening to reports, looking at paper charts, and running around the site; managers can easily obtain first-hand effective information, make clearer judgments on problems, and make more accurate real-time decisions.
