A speed reducer is essentially a power transmission mechanism that doesn't generate power itself. Furthermore, if a speed reducer fails, only the gears need to be replaced, making it much cheaper than replacing the motor itself.

1) Reduce speed to increase output torque. The torque output ratio is calculated by multiplying the motor output by the reduction ratio, but be careful not to exceed the rated torque of the reducer.
2) Deceleration reduces the load's inertia.
