Application of AC300 general-purpose frequency converter in power cable trays

I. Overview

The wire and cable industry is currently moving towards greater technological development, including product diversification and automation. Powered wire feeding frames are very common in the industry. Based on their style, powered wire feeding frames can be divided into vertical wire feeding frames and horizontal wire feeding frames. Both are wire feeding devices, differing only in structure. In the wire feeding process, frequency converters have become indispensable equipment. Frequency converters can control the speed of the motor to achieve the wire feeding speed, thereby improving the process level and production efficiency, ensuring process quality, and maximizing profits.

II. Composition and Working Principle of the Power Cable Laying Frame Equipment

A powered wire feeding machine feeds two (or more) wires. The wires pass through a balance bar machine, and the position of the balance bar determines whether the wire feeding machine rotates forward, reverses, or stops at zero. After passing the balance bar, the wires finally enter a stranding machine, where the two (or more) wires are twisted together to produce the final product. For example, the network cable we commonly use can be produced using a powered wire feeding machine.

III. Functions of the Powered Cable Laying Frame Equipment

(1) When the swing arm is in the middle, the motor stops (commonly known as: zero position);

(2) When the swing arm is at the bottom, the motor is in reverse and the maximum frequency does not exceed 5 Hz;

(3) When the swing arm is at the top, the motor rotates forward with a maximum frequency of 30Hz and a fast response time;

(4) The pendulum must not touch the limit point when it moves up or down;

(5) When automatically finding the zero point, the swing amplitude should not be too large, so that the zero point can be found quickly and accurately;

(6) When the machine stops, the wire will not loosen and will remain taut.

IV. Application of AC300 in Power Cable Laying Stands

To achieve the above-mentioned functions of the power cable laying frame (or to meet the requirements of a machinery factory in Jieyang), the PID function of the AC300 frequency converter can be used. First, find the zero point of the feedback rod (the physical position is in the middle, at which point the PID input can be set to 50%). Connect the feedback rod to the PID feedback. By shifting the feedback rod away from the zero point, forward or reverse rotation can be achieved by moving it up or down. To achieve other functions, the relevant PID parameters (PID gain, PID feedback, etc.) can be adjusted.

V. Summary

The power wire feeding rack utilizes the PID control function of a frequency converter. Previously, a dedicated AC80 frequency converter was used on the power wire feeding rack, which could meet the requirements of power wire feeding. However, using the AC300 general-purpose frequency converter provides more perfect control performance on the power wire feeding rack because our company has optimized the PID control algorithm on the AC300 general-purpose frequency converter, resulting in better PID control performance, higher accuracy, and faster dynamic response. This enables excellent process control and ensures the reliability of process control.
