Optical encoders are widely used as position measuring instruments in machine tools, conveying equipment, industrial automation, and measurement and testing equipment. Today, we'll introduce some basic measurement knowledge. The optical scanning measurement reference of Heidenhain optical encoders is a periodic grating . Combined with Heidenhain's unique photoelectric scanning technology and absolute measurement method, this precision measurement can be described as "absolutely amazing."

Absolute measurement refers to the encoder providing position values ​​immediately upon power-up, which are readily available for subsequent signal processing circuitry. There is no need to move the axis to perform a reference point homing operation. Absolute position information comes from a series of absolute codes forming grating lines. Individual incremental track signals generate position values ​​through subdivision, and can also generate selectable incremental signals.
