Why must explosion-proof robots be used for spray painting?

2026-04-06 07:59:13 · · #1

Explosion-proof spraying robots, as the name suggests, are painting robots with explosion-proof functions. They are a type of specialized robotic automatic spraying equipment in the painting field. Simply put, they are robots with high safety levels, strong protection capabilities, and the ability to adapt to some special working environments. They typically have an IP rating of 54 or higher.

During spraying, whether powder coating or paint spraying, atomization is necessary to ensure uniformity. Since paint is composed of chemical substances, the paint mist and other volatile gases are flammable, making the spraying site resemble a gas station – highly flammable and explosive. Furthermore, robots are electrically controlled, and inadequate safety precautions could lead to fires and explosions.

Therefore, international standards require the use of explosion-proof robots in spray painting projects, and explosion-proof robots are commonly used in spray painting projects. So spray painting robots are often referred to as explosion-proof robots, or explosion-proof robots are referred to as spray painting robots.

From a security perspective:

First and foremost, neither manufacturers nor the government want production accidents to occur. Therefore, there is a consensus that explosion-proof equipment must be used for spraying. This is because the impact of a safety accident on equipment, employees, the factory, and society is enormous—explosion-proof conditions are essential at spraying sites.

From a technical perspective:

Does the absence of explosion-proof robots mean they can't perform painting ? From a purely technical standpoint, non-explosion-proof robots can still meet the process requirements for painting. Other explosion-proof methods, such as adding protective covers, protective clothing, or protective layers, can achieve the same goal of blocking flammable gases and dust, thus achieving explosion protection. However, explosion protection involves more than just blocking flammable paint mist; the equipment itself also has requirements for heat dissipation and ventilation. Furthermore, it must not interfere with the normal operation of the equipment, the work path, maintenance, and other daily operations. External protection is not an easy task either.

Based on national standards:

With increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements for factories, strictly adhering to environmental standards is the right thing to do from a developmental perspective. It is also a social responsibility and a basic awareness that every enterprise should bear. Using robots for spraying can increase adhesion rates, reduce resource consumption and pollution, and better meet environmental protection requirements.

On the other hand, newly established spraying projects have strict requirements regarding equipment and environmental impact assessments during the approval process; those that do not meet these requirements cannot even be established. Given that explosion-proof machines are significantly more expensive than general industrial robots, local governments have established programs for industrial enterprises to apply for financial subsidies for spraying workshops. This aims to promote enterprise innovation and move towards environmentally friendly production methods, while also reducing the financial burden on enterprises and driving automation and intelligentization.

What are the advantages of the protective features of a painting robot ?

The painting robot not only has protective functions but also protective measures, with an IP protection rating of IP55 and explosion-proof measures including:

1. The electrical wires and motors of the painting robot are all placed on the outside of the casing and are not exposed.

2. The robot is equipped with a combustible gas detector.

3. Sealing rings prevent outside air from entering the robot's casing. A spark mixed with flammable gas can cause an explosion. Robots are typically equipped with flammable gas detectors; if the detector detects flammable gas, it will sound an alarm and shut down the robot.
