Five ways to extend the lifespan of your frequency inverter

After repairing frequency converters, we realized that if people can avoid some common misconceptions and eliminate some erroneous ideas when using and repairing frequency converters, it will greatly benefit their use and maintenance.

1. Do not install the frequency converter on equipment that vibrates, as this can easily loosen the main circuit connection screws inside the frequency converter, and many frequency converters have been damaged for this reason.

II. Wiring Issues: It is best to connect an air switch to the inverter input terminal. The current rating should not be too high to prevent severe damage in the event of a short circuit. Never ground the "N" terminal. Control cables should not be too long. Excessive length makes the control board susceptible to electromagnetic interference, leading to malfunctions and potential damage. Cables exceeding 2 meters in length should ideally be shielded. Do not install high-current, frequently operating contactors near the inverter, as they cause significant interference and often result in inverter malfunctions (displaying various fault codes).

Third, frequency converters that frequently need to stop abruptly should not rely on the frequency converter itself for braking. Instead, an additional braking voltage or mechanical brake should be used. Otherwise, the frequency converter will be frequently subjected to the back electromotive force of the motor, which will greatly increase the failure rate.

4. If the frequency converter frequently runs at low speeds below 15Hz, an additional cooling fan should be added to the motor!

5. Dust and moisture are the most deadly killers of frequency converters. It is best to install the frequency converter in an air-conditioned room or in an electrical cabinet with a dust filter. The dust on the circuit board and heat sink should be cleaned regularly. Before powering on a frequency converter that has been shut down for a period of time, it is best to blow the circuit board with a hair dryer.
