If we can avoid some common misconceptions and correct some erroneous ideas when using and maintaining frequency converters , it will greatly benefit the lifespan and maintenance of the frequency converters, allowing them to truly achieve a "long life"!
Installation issues
Do not install frequency inverters directly on vibrating machinery or equipment, as the main circuit connection screws inside can easily loosen, and many frequency inverters are damaged for this reason.
Wiring problem
It is best to connect an air switch to the inverter input terminal, with a current rating that is not too high, to prevent severe damage in the event of a short circuit. Never ground the "N" terminal. Control cables should not be too long. Excessive length makes the control board susceptible to electromagnetic interference, leading to malfunctions and potential damage. Cables exceeding 2 meters in length should ideally be shielded. Do not install high-current, frequently operating contactors near the inverter, as they cause significant interference and often result in inverter malfunctions (displaying various fault codes).
Braking problem
For frequency converters that frequently need to stop suddenly, it is best not to rely on the frequency converter's own braking mechanism, but to add a braking current or use a mechanical brake. Otherwise, the frequency converter will be frequently subjected to the back electromotive force of the motor, which will greatly increase the failure rate.
Heat dissipation problem
If the frequency converter frequently operates at low speeds below 15Hz, the motor needs an additional cooling fan!
Environmental issues
Dust and moisture are the most deadly killers of frequency inverters. Ideally, the inverter should be installed in an air-conditioned room or in an electrical cabinet with a dust filter. Regularly clean the dust from the circuit boards and heat sinks. Before powering on an inverter that has been shut down for a period of time, it's best to use a hairdryer to blow out the circuit boards. Alternatively, install a sealed, highly protected inverter that can be used in harsh environments.
