High-voltage frequency converters are investment-grade equipment, primarily used for energy conservation and improving production processes. Their future market development still faces some uncertainties. As motor energy-saving and speed-regulating devices, high-voltage frequency converters are widely used in metallurgy, power, water supply, petroleum, chemical, and coal industries. Their market analysis is as follows:
1. Metallurgical Industry — The main applications of high voltage frequency converters in the metallurgical industry include rolling mills, coilers, fans, and slurry pumps for plate and wire rods, primarily for the purpose of energy saving of motors.
2. Power Industry – my country's power generation capacity ranks second in the world, second only to the United States. The power industry is also one of the important application areas for frequency converters. Looking at the control processes related to frequency converters in my country's thermal power plants, the transmission devices of the air, coal, water, slag, and exhaust gas systems are all suitable for frequency converter applications. Among them, except for the coal system (pulverizer, coal feeder), the other four types of systems are mainly driven by fan and pump loads. Frequency converters are primarily used to change the amount of coal, pulverizer, and water to adapt to load changes, ultimately achieving the goals of saving energy and improving control technology. This is of great significance for energy conservation, consumption reduction, emission reduction, safety, and stable operation of thermal power plants.
3. Water supply—including water supply and drainage systems and sewage treatment systems in shared projects. These devices primarily consist of motor loads such as fans and pumps. The energy-saving effect of using high-voltage frequency converters is outstanding, typically achieving energy savings of around 30%.
4. Oil and Gas Drilling and Production Industry—Since 2004, the oil and gas drilling and production industry has been in a high-prosperity cycle, with the exploration expenditures of my country's three major oil companies maintaining an increase of over 20%. Recently, my country has seen a series of significant resource discoveries in the oil and gas sector, such as the Hebei Jidong Nanbao Oilfield with 1 billion tons of crude oil geological reserves, the Sichuan Longgang Gas Field with 500 billion cubic meters of geological reserves, and the Xinjiang Tahe Oilfield Block 12 with nearly 200 million tons of crude oil geological reserves. These discoveries will further boost investment in oil and gas exploration, and it is estimated that the expenditures of major oil companies on oil exploration and production will increase further in the coming years. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) are used in the oil extraction industry, primarily for motors in load types such as oil pumps (nodding donkey jacks), water injection pumps, submersible pumps, oil transfer pumps, and gas compressors, mainly for energy saving.
5. Petrochemical Industry — The petrochemical industry is the lifeblood of national economic development. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) are primarily used in various pumps, compressors, and common engineering applications in petroleum processing (refining) to achieve energy savings and improve process control.
6. Building Materials Industry—The building materials industry is an important materials industry in my country, with products encompassing three major categories: building materials and products, non-metallic minerals and products, and inorganic non-metallic new materials. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) are primarily used in equipment such as blowers, crushers, belt conveyors, exhaust fans, and rotary kilns in the building materials industry. According to relevant organizations, approximately 70% of my country's cement production capacity consists of technologically backward vertical kilns with high energy consumption. Upgrading with VFDs can save 10% to 20% of electricity while improving product quality control. According to Dongfang Securities analysis, the demand for high-voltage VFDs will maintain a growth rate of over 40% in the next few years. It is estimated that by 2012, the market capacity of high-voltage VFDs in my country will reach approximately 8.8 billion yuan, while conservative estimates suggest that the market capacity will exceed 50 billion yuan over the next ten years. The Chinese high-voltage VFD market has enormous potential. Currently, the application rate of high-voltage VFDs in my country is less than 30%, while in developed countries it has reached 70%. Because installing VFDs can achieve an average energy saving of 30%, the application of high-voltage VFDs is accelerating in the context of a low-carbon economy. In 2008, the sales volume of high-voltage frequency converters in China reached 3.4 billion yuan, and it is expected to maintain a growth rate of over 40% in the next four years. If only 30% of existing motors and newly added motors are retrofitted for speed regulation and energy saving, there will be a market capacity of approximately 70 million KW and 70,000 units. In the next ten years, the market capacity will exceed 70,000 units, and the output will exceed 50 billion yuan.
7. Coal Industry — China is the world's largest coal producer. As a fundamental energy industry in my country, the coal industry has always been labor-intensive. To transform it into a technology-intensive industry and follow a new path of industrialization, it is necessary to vigorously promote high-tech and improve equipment operating efficiency and automation levels. Variable frequency drive (VFD) technology can effectively save energy when used in mine hoists in the coal industry. Currently, developed countries have widely adopted VFDs for speed control of belt conveyors, starting control of belt conveyors, fan speed control (including main and partial fans), and water pump speed control. Equipping the motors in these devices with VFDs not only improves transmission efficiency but, more importantly, saves energy.
As can be seen from the above materials, high-voltage frequency converters play a pivotal role in various industries, and due to their large market space, they have enormous development potential.
