What is DCS?

DCS is the abbreviation for Distributed Control System, also known as a distributed control system in the domestic automation field.

DCS (Distributed Control System) is a product of the high integration of computer technology, control technology, and network technology. It is currently the most advanced and rational process control system, capable of adapting to various process control requirements. Its process control points are distributed, resulting in high system reliability. Through centralized operation and monitoring, DCS offers convenient operation and maintenance. DCS has standard interfaces, making external connections easier and simpler.

Therefore, the main characteristics of DCS can be summarized in one sentence: "decentralized control, centralized management".

What is a PLC?

A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is a digital electronic system designed for industrial applications. It uses a programmable memory to store programs, execute user-oriented instructions for logical operations, sequential control, timing, counting, and arithmetic operations, and control various types of machinery or production processes through digital or analog inputs/outputs. It is a core component of industrial control.

Differences between DCS and PLC:

A PLC can be considered just one of the controllers in a DCS system.

DCS Composition Structure:

DCS typically uses several controllers (process stations) to control numerous control points in a production process. These controllers are connected via a network and can exchange data. Production control operations are performed using computer workstations, which connect to the controllers via the network to collect production data and transmit operating instructions.

Structurally, a DCS (Distributed Control System) includes process level, operation level, and management level. The process level mainly consists of process control stations, I/O units, and field instruments, and is the main part that implements the system's control functions.
