How to visually identify brushed and brushless motors
The simplest way to identify a brushless motor is by looking at its lead wires. If the motor has three large wires and five thin wires, it's a brushless motor. A brushed motor, on the other hand, has carbon brushes. Brushed motors typically have two or three carbon brushes, and usually only have two lead wires (positive and negative), making them very easy to distinguish.
You can tell the difference by looking at the motor's leads. Brushless motors do not require an external power supply to the rotor, so they have no leads; while brushed motors require an external power supply, so they have two power lines (DC). The leads on the stator are indistinguishable.
Compared to brushed motors, brushless motors have a much longer continuous operating time because brushless motors do not require carbon brush replacement; while the carbon brushes of brushed motors wear down after a period of use and need to be replaced to ensure the normal operation of the motor. Therefore, their continuous operating times differ significantly.

After successfully selecting and applying a brushless DC motor to equipment, its application is not the end. In daily use, to ensure the motor continues to operate at its highest efficiency, maintenance is necessary. This article mainly focuses on the maintenance of brushless DC motors.
DC brushless motors combine the advantages of AC motors (simplicity, reliability, and ease of maintenance) with the high efficiency and excellent speed control of DC motors. Furthermore, because they are not limited by mechanical commutation, they are easily made to achieve large capacity and high speed, making them promising for applications in aerospace, military, CNC, metallurgy, and medical devices. DC brushless motor maintenance methods:
1. Be familiar with the structural characteristics and maintenance technical requirements of DC brushless geared motors;
2. Select a work location for dismantling the motor and clean up the site.
3. To further understand the defects in the operation of the brushless DC motor, an inspection test can be performed before disassembly if conditions permit;
4. Before disassembling the DC brushless motor, use compressed air to blow away dust from the motor surface and wipe away any dirt.
5. Prepare the necessary tools (including specialized tools) and equipment for dismantling;
6. Disconnect the power supply, remove the external wiring of the motor, and make a record.
