[Leica Intelligent] Easily Master Motion Control with Leica L7EC Series Servo Adapter and Omron PLC in Three Steps

2026-04-06 04:33:05 · · #1

The L7 general-purpose AC servo system is the result of sixteen years of research and development and seven generations of upgrades by Leadshine Intelligent. It includes three communication types: EtherCAT bus, RS485, and pulse.

Since its launch, the L7 series has been widely used and highly praised in automation equipment in industries such as electronics manufacturing, lasers, engraving, injection molding robots, machine tools, logistics, textiles, medical, and new energy, thanks to its high performance, high quality, high stability, and ease of use.

To help you easily connect and debug your L7EC series PLC with mainstream PLC master stations such as Omron, Keyence, Beckhoff, and Leadshine, we will be providing a series of training sessions. This session will introduce the key connection steps with an Omron PLC master station:

Part 01: Create a new project and import ESI files.

Omron main website and computer connection

In the controller settings, select the corresponding connection type, enter the corresponding PLC IP address, and click "Ethernet Communication Test". If the test is successful, the communication connection is successful.

Import ESI files

Go to EtherCAT Master Device → ESI File Library → "This Folder" and place the ESI files in "This Folder". The system may not recognize the drive at this point; close the project and reopen it to allow the drive to be recognized.

Part 02, Configuring PDO and Axis Parameters

Configure PDO

Click the "Offline" button → Select the L7EC slave → Select "PDO Mapping Settings" → Click "Edit PDO Mapping Settings" → Select the ReceivePDO or Transmit PDO that needs to be edited → To delete a PDO, simply select the PDO object and click "Delete PDO Entry"; to add a PDO, click "Add PDO Entry" and add the corresponding PDO object.

Axis parameter configuration

STEP 1: Add a motion axis

Click "Motion Control Settings" → Click "Axis Settings" → Right-click "Add" → "Motion Control Axis".

STEP2: Basic Axis Settings

Click on the added axis → go to the "Axis Basic Settings Interface", select "Server Axis" for axis type, and select the corresponding node for output device 1 to match the axis number with the node number.

STEP3: Axis PDO Correspondence

In CSP mode, set the axis parameters as shown in the video. Parameters marked with "*" are required by the controller. Other parameters can be configured according to actual needs.

Part 03: Establishing Communication Between Omron PLC Master Station and L7EC

Click "Online" → Click "Controller" → "Transmitting" → "Transmit to Controller". Once the transmission is complete, communication between the controller and the servo is successfully established.
