Industrial camera main interface type classification

1. IEEE 1394

1. Widely used in industrial applications. The protocol and encoding methods are excellent, and the transmission speed is stable.

2. In industrial applications, the commonly used interfaces are the 400Mb 1394A and the 800Mb 1394B. Interfaces exceeding 800Mb also exist, such as 3.2Gb, but these are less common.

3. Low interface penetration rate. In the early days, Apple monopolized the market, and computers usually did not include its interface, so an additional capture card was required.

4. Note the Packet Size setting. Packet Size is the bandwidth of the entire 1394 bus.

5. It consumes less CPU resources and can be used by multiple machines simultaneously, but due to the low adoption rate of its interface, it has been gradually phased out by the market.

II. Gigabit Ethernet Interface

1. The gigabit network protocol is stable and easy to use; it works simply by connecting to a gigabit network card.

2. In the properties of gigabit network cards, there is also a "giant frame" setting similar to the "Packet Size" setting in 1394. Properly setting this parameter can achieve better results. (In NI Max, the "packet size" setting was too large, causing the software to be unable to capture images.)

3. Long transmission distance, up to 100 meters.

4. Multiple units can be used simultaneously with low CPU usage.

III. USB Interface

1. Early USB 2.0 interfaces were convenient for connection, and almost all computers were equipped with USB interfaces, eliminating the need for a capture card.

2. The USB 2.0 interface has a slow transmission rate and requires CPU management during the transmission process, which consumes a lot of resources.

3. USB 2.0 interfaces generally do not have fixing screws, making the interface unstable and at risk of loosening on sports equipment.

4. USB 3.0 adds two data cables to USB 2.0, is backward compatible, and has improved the slow transmission speed, but the transmission distance is still relatively short.

IV. Camera Link Interface

1. It requires a separate CameraLink interface, which is not portable and results in excessive costs.

2. Cameras with Camera Link interfaces are relatively rare in practical applications.

3. It adopts the LVDS interface standard, which has a fast speed, strong anti-interference ability, and low power consumption.

4. Short transmission distance.
