(I) Vacuum Environment Type Stepper Motor

Vacuum motors do not introduce contaminants into the environment, making them ideal for sensitive environments where degassing must be avoided, especially in semiconductor manufacturing processes. Vacuum motors are also commonly used in vacuum chambers for testing and manufacturing, as well as in spacecraft and satellites.

No system is 100% effective. Heat is generated when the motor coil is energized, and heat becomes a problem when using conventional motors in vacuum applications, mainly for two reasons: degraded motor performance and shortened motor life.

The magnetic field strength of permanent magnets decreases with increasing heat, leading to a decline in motor performance. This directly affects the motor's torque output; at certain temperatures, the motor will stop operating completely. Secondly, heat significantly impacts the lifespan of the bearings used in the motor, thus shortening the lifespan of the entire system.

In a vacuum environment, gases are removed, convection is minimal, and heat is dissipated from the motor. While conventional motors are designed with thermal convection in mind, heat can rapidly accumulate and overwhelm the motor when a conventional stepper operates in a vacuum. As the gases trapped inside the motor expand, they introduce harmful contaminants into the environment, significantly impacting nearby components such as sensors and sensitive instruments. In a vacuum environment, venting must be avoided at all costs. This is why our vacuum-rated motors are designed to minimize venting.

All motor components (end caps, stator, rotor, and screws) are made of low-emission materials. Special sealed bearings are also incorporated into the design. Furthermore, all components undergo thorough cleaning and vacuum baking. After baking, the motor is assembled in a cleanroom environment and vacuum-sealed to ensure no contaminants enter the packaging during transport.

Because electric motors with rated vacuum do not introduce contaminants into the environment, they are ideal for sensitive environments where exhaust must be avoided, especially in semiconductor manufacturing processes where even the smallest amount of contamination can disrupt production. Electric motors rated for vacuum are typically used in vacuum chambers for testing and manufacturing. Vacuum-rated motors specifically designed for satellites and spacecraft have applications ranging from communication antennas to vehicle control.

To manufacture the cleanest electric motor on the market, we created our own motor assembly process and tested the results against those of known competitors. To do this, we placed the motor in a positive flow chamber (nitrogen gas flow rate of 1 mm/min) and measured its exhaust volume over 72 hours at 125°C. Then, we performed the following measurements:

Total mass loss percentage (% TML) - The higher the percentage, the more severe the sample contamination.

Total mass loss (µg/motor) - This is the weight of the mass of the sample that evaporates into the chamber. The greater the amount, the more severe the sample contamination.
