Definition of intelligent robots

In a broad sense, the most striking impression of a so-called intelligent robot is that it is a unique, self-controlled "living thing." In reality, the main organs of this self-controlled "living thing" are not as subtle and complex as those of a real human.

An intelligent robot is a machine system that comprehensively simulates a human in terms of perception, thinking, and action, though its physical appearance may not necessarily resemble a human. An intelligent robot possesses a highly developed "brain." Operating within this brain is a central computer, which has a direct connection with the person operating it. Most importantly, this computer can perform actions planned according to a specific purpose. It is precisely because of this that we consider such robots to be true robots, despite their possible differences in appearance. They serve as a comprehensive testing ground for artificial intelligence technology, allowing for a thorough examination of various fields of AI and the study of their interrelationships. Furthermore, they can perform dangerous tasks in hazardous environments, and excel in operations at sea, in the air, and on the battlefield.

Intelligent robots possess a variety of internal and external information sensors, such as vision, hearing, touch, and smell. In addition to receptors, they also have effectors, which act as a means of interacting with their surroundings. These are the muscles, or self-synchronizing motors, which enable the movement of hands, feet, noses, antennae, etc. Therefore, it can be concluded that an intelligent robot must possess at least three elements: sensory elements, responsive elements, and cognitive elements.

We call this type of robot an autonomous robot to distinguish it from the robots discussed earlier. It is a product of cybernetics, which asserts that the purposeful behavior of living and non-living things is consistent in many ways. As one intelligent robot maker put it, a robot is a functional description of a system that, in the past, could only be derived from the growth of living cells, has now become something we can create ourselves.

Intelligent robots can understand human language and converse with their operators in the same language. Within their own "consciousness," they have developed a detailed model of the external environment—the actual situation—that enables them to "survive." They can analyze situations, adjust their actions to meet all the operator's demands, formulate desired actions, and complete these actions even with insufficient information and rapidly changing environments. Of course, it's impossible for them to think exactly like humans. However, some are still attempting to create a kind of "microscopic world" that computers can understand.
