Analysis of the characteristics of small-sized butterfly-shaped optical cables

Small-sized butterfly-shaped optical cables have many advantages, including the following:

Low installation cost

When renovating older areas, it's common to encounter situations where replacement fiber optic cables cannot pass through existing conduits. Replacing the existing conduits in such cases significantly increases costs. Using small-sized butterfly-shaped fiber optic cables avoids this problem. Furthermore, small-sized butterfly-shaped cables save on cabling conduits compared to conventional butterfly-shaped cables, allowing for more efficient conduit layout. In short, whether overhead or underground, small-sized butterfly-shaped fiber optic cables offer higher room utilization efficiency, smaller footprint, higher conduit utilization, and lower installation costs while maintaining higher efficiency.

Small space

FTTH is the only all-optical access platform that can transparently, on a large scale, and reliably provide Gb/s rates within its service area. Once carrier-grade FTTH becomes widespread, a single central office might handle fiber optic connections for 100,000 users. Even using PON technology with a splitting ratio of 1×32, the number of outgoing fibers would need to be over 3100. For larger exchanges, this number could reach nearly 10,000. Continuing to use conventional 3.0mm diameter butterfly cables would occupy a significant amount of equipment room space, while smaller butterfly cables, which take up less space, would better meet the requirements of FTTH.

Good bending resistance

With the restructuring of China Telecom and China Unicom, the launch of "fiber-to-the-home" and "copper-to-the-home" projects has led to indoor optical cables gradually replacing communication cables as the mainstay of structured cabling. In particular, small-bending-radius optical cables will have a larger market share in the future. Compared to other current optical cables, these small-sized, butterfly-shaped cables offer better bending resistance (while ensuring normal attenuation), save materials, effectively reduce cable costs, and thus conserve resources.
