AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su recently revealed that the company will release the next-generation graphics cards based on the RDNA3 architecture and Navi 3x core, namely the RX 7000 series, at the end of this year, and simultaneously launch the next-generation Ryzen processor based on the Zen4 architecture and codenamed Raphael, namely the Ryzen 7000 series.
Now, an AMD engineer responsible for the design of the infinite cache module has revealed in his resume that the AMD Navi 3x series GPUs include three versions: Navi 31, Navi 32, and Navi 33. Navi 31/32 will use both 5nm and 6nm manufacturing processes, while Navi 33 will use only 6nm process.
This means that both Navi 31 and 32 are MCM dual-chip package designs, including the main chip of the core computing unit (5nm process) and the secondary chip of input/output and connection parts (6nm), just like the chiplet design of Ryzen processors: CCD 7nm, IOD 12nm.
Navi 33 is a single-chip design, and because it is aimed at the low-end market, it uses the more mature and lower-cost 6nm process—the current Navi 24 has already adopted 6nm.
The flagship Navi 31 core is expected to have a core area of approximately 800 square millimeters, integrating up to 15,360 stream processor cores, 256MB of infinite cache, a frequency of approximately 2.5GHz, up to 32GB of 256-bit GDDR6 memory, and a power consumption of 350-400W or even higher. Its performance is expected to reach 2.5 times that of the Navi 21 core.
In addition, this project also participated in AMD's next-generation computing card Instinct MI300 project, which uses the same 6nm manufacturing process as the current MI200.
Interestingly, the engineer quickly removed the relevant section from his resume, which ironically confirmed its authenticity.
