Recently, the "Research and Industrialization of Key Technologies for Long-Length High-Voltage Optoelectronic Composite Submarine Cables" project of Orient Cable won the second prize of the National Energy Science and Technology Progress Award.
Long-length, high-voltage fiber optic composite submarine cable technology is recognized worldwide as a complex and challenging large-scale engineering project. The complex and variable seabed environment places higher demands on the cable's pressure resistance, sealing, and strength. Submarine cable projects involve numerous stages, including design, development, production, construction, and maintenance, with long deployment cycles and large investments. Each stage requires specialized technology and equipment, and the reliability requirements for the products are extremely high. In response to these challenges, with the support of the National Science and Technology Support Program, Orient Cable, leveraging the expertise and resources of research institutions, universities, manufacturing companies, and construction teams, tackled key technical difficulties in long-length, high-voltage fiber optic composite submarine cables, achieving numerous independent innovation results.
The localization and application of the products from this project is of great significance:
1. The product integrates power transmission and optical signal transmission, reducing the need for laying two cables to a single cable, thus solving the problems of cable laying and loss in fiber optic composite submarine cables, and saving marine and electrical resources;
2. It has achieved the localization of long-length, high-voltage fiber optic composite submarine cables, breaking the long-standing reliance on foreign imports for this product, which severely restricted the development of islands and the exploitation of offshore oil fields in my country, and filling a domestic gap;
3. It has enhanced the industry's independent innovation capabilities and driven overall technological progress in the industry;
4. It is of great significance for solving the problem of power supply to isolated islands, developing the marine economy, and safeguarding national maritime rights.
