Specified Technologies (STI) has recently added a new product to its EZ-Path series of cable management products. The company claims the new EZ-Path smoke and acoustic channel is designed to improve the way traction cables pass through non-fireproof barriers, including smoke-proof areas, providing smoke, air, and environmental sealing in addition to superior acoustic performance.
STI says its patent-pending EZ-Path smoke and acoustic pathway is designed for easy and smooth cable replacement while providing maximum cable protection and management, improving the appearance of walls by eliminating unsightly holes that transmit smoke, noise, and odors. The duct's clean design offers smoke, air, environmental, and acoustic sealing advantages for applications in healthcare, commercial, and educational settings.
“For example, in medical settings, acoustic sealing protects patient privacy,” says Brian Hengstenberger, EZ-Path Product Manager. “Automatic sealing and remote cable pulling disrupt ceiling space (reducing ceiling space). In commercial settings, acoustic sealing between offices and meeting rooms helps control noise, and in classrooms, it lowers noise levels, improving the learning environment. Environmental sealing also maintains indoor air quality and reduces odor transmission.” STI states that EZ-Path Smoke and Acoustic Path, offering low smoke leakage and zero maintenance, allows for simple, smooth cable movement, addition, and alteration without the need for caulking or putty. Easy to install, the channels can be installed horizontally or vertically. Adjustable channels accommodate wall and floor thicknesses between 4″ (102 mm) and 8″ (203 mm) and can be linked for greater capacity.
While the new EZ-Path smoke and acoustic pathways are designed for non-rated buildings, STI notes that the original EZ-Path fire-resistant pathways remain the best option for fire-resistant buildings, including smoke barriers and specific types of smoke-resistant barriers with fire ratings.
