The integration of multiple technologies is becoming the main trend in the development of industrial control computers.
Industrial PC bus technology. Industrial PC bus technology has evolved from the traditional ISA bus, through the PCI bus, to the current PCI-E bus. The ISA-based technology is considered the first generation of industrial PC bus technology; PCI, CPCI, and PXI, based on PCI, represent the second generation; and the current third generation consists of PCI-E, CPCI-E, and PXI-E. This type of transmission uses low-voltage differential transmission and is a point-to-point serial transmission, offering faster speeds and stronger anti-interference capabilities.
Embedded applications are becoming increasingly diverse. With the development of hardware technology, various CPUs and programmable logic devices will be widely used, significantly improving the intelligence level of industrial control computers. In the future, with the continuous development of embedded hardware technology, the categories of industrial control computers will become increasingly rich. Furthermore, miniaturized and real-time operating systems will simplify industrial control computer applications and will see widespread adoption.
Software engineering. Industrial control computers cannot function without software, and the current trend is towards software-based hardware, solving problems based on hardware channel technologies or directly using pure software methods, such as time synchronization technology. Furthermore, there's software engineering, which involves building the entire system platform using software technologies, such as networked instruments and remote measurement and control instruments.
Numerous communication technologies will be adopted. Whether it's digital factories, digital substations, the Internet of Things, or the Internet, the better a company supports communication technologies, the better its industrial control computers will be used. The same applies to the chips in industrial control computers; those chips that support communication well are likely to be widely used. Therefore, Ethernet technology and fieldbus technology will be widely adopted in the future.
In conjunction with the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), industrial control computers (ICSCs), as basic testing units, play a crucial role in the interconnectedness of IoT devices. The development of ICSs will inevitably drive the development of the IoT.
The market is moving towards customization
With the diversification of market demands, simply providing standard products can no longer fully meet customer needs, making customization the development direction of industrial PCs. This requires industrial PC manufacturers to have a deep understanding of industry needs in order to bring continuous application improvements to users.
