Connected Factories: Industrial Connectivity Fuels Industry 4.0

2026-04-06 05:59:47 · · #1

While forward-thinking manufacturers have already begun adopting modernization and digitalization, the COVID-19 pandemic has made the need to develop advanced network connectivity even more urgent. Next-generation industrial connectivity connects assets and technologies, creating an efficient, resilient, and flexible ecosystem that can easily adapt to unique manufacturing needs and keep pace with future trends.

Through decades of disruptive innovation and development, Analog Devices (ADI) possesses not only deep expertise in industrial and communications technologies but also extensive practical experience in system-level design and problem-solving. We collaborate with our customers to think about challenging problems in new ways and explore new solutions. However, we believe there is still much to learn from an external perspective.

To gain a deeper understanding of the impact of the latest connectivity trends on digital transformation, ADI commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct an assessment of the current state of industrial connectivity, including providing more timely data, insights, and decision-making capabilities.

Following a survey of over 300 manufacturing leaders worldwide who were developing industrial connectivity strategies within their organizations, respondents were grouped according to their companies' digital transformation maturity levels (low, medium, and high). The following key insights are particularly important in the research report.

• Low-maturity companies are seeking connectivity insights they can rely on; however, 53% of these organizations have legacy devices that cannot communicate with other assets.

Mid-maturity companies are more confident in improving network reliability and protecting industrial data. However, they are still looking for ways to become digital-first organizations.

Highly mature companies are adopting flexible manufacturing because about half of the respondents are capable of handling small batches, rapid reconfiguration, and customized products.

The following interactive charts help you determine where your company is on the digital transformation spectrum and show the next logical steps to take to achieve your future-ready goals.
