"Mineral-insulated pre-branched cables may provide a new option for overall building fire safety and provide assurance for fire rescue," said Liu Lei, deputy chief engineer of Shanghai Gaoqiao Cable Group, in a report entitled "On Mineral-Insulated Pre-Branched Cables" at the Shanghai Electrical Engineering Design and Research Association Forum and New Technology and New Product Promotion Conference on March 26.
Liu Lei explained that the advantages of pre-branched cables are: good airtightness and waterproofness, low contact resistance, resistance to short-circuit impacts, convenient factory processing and installation, and reliable power supply. However, common branching methods for mineral-insulated cables often encounter problems with the sealing and fire resistance of the branch box, as well as the reliability of power supply after disconnecting and reconnecting the main conductor.
"Mineral-insulated pre-branched cables not only inherit the advantages of both pre-branched and mineral-insulated cables, but also solve the problems of fire resistance and waterproofing of the branch junctions in pre-branched and mineral-insulated cables," he said. He added that the advantages of this cable product include safe main power supply, small footprint, easy installation, and the ability to be twisted to meet multi-core laying requirements. He pointed out that the successful research and development and production of this product has brought convenience to engineering installation, provided new options for building fire safety design, and ensured fire rescue capabilities.
According to reporters, the proportion of major fire accidents caused by electrical issues has remained consistently high for many years. With continuous societal development, countries worldwide are placing increasing emphasis on the fire safety performance of cables and other products used in buildings, and are increasingly considering fire safety factors in overall building design. Shanghai Gaoqiao Cable Group's mineral-insulated pre-branched cable products were successfully developed and manufactured under these circumstances, and are currently being successfully applied to lines such as the Hefei-Fuzhou Railway Passenger Dedicated Line.
