Lithium-ion battery energy storage technology

To date, various energy storage technologies have been proposed and developed to meet different applications and needs, with lithium-ion battery energy storage being the most feasible technology route.

From an economic perspective, lithium-ion batteries are highly competitive in energy storage technology. Sodium-sulfur batteries and vanadium redox flow batteries have not yet achieved industrialization, have limited supply channels, and are expensive. In terms of operation and maintenance costs, sodium-sulfur batteries require continuous heating, and vanadium redox flow batteries require pumps for fluid control, increasing operating costs. Lithium-ion batteries, on the other hand, require almost no maintenance.

Public data shows that my country has 20 lithium-ion battery energy storage projects with a total installed capacity of 39.575MW. Energy storage is one of the important means to solve the intermittent fluctuations of new energy wind power and photovoltaic power and achieve peak shaving and valley filling functions. As an emerging application scenario, lithium-ion batteries for energy storage are gradually gaining attention.

Lithium-ion batteries are a crucial energy storage technology, widely used in portable electronic devices and new energy vehicles, and the cost of energy storage batteries continues to decline globally. However, future energy storage methods will shift from lithium-ion batteries to a wider range of innovative solutions.
