This paper summarizes the circuit design of lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries have advantages such as small size, large capacity, light weight, no pollution, single voltage, low self-discharge rate, and high cycle life, but they are relatively expensive. Nickel-cadmium batteries are being phased out due to their low capacity, severe self-discharge, and environmental pollution. Nickel-metal hydride batteries offer high cost-effectiveness and are environmentally friendly, but their single voltage is only 1.2V, limiting their applications.

Lithium-ion battery characteristics:

1. Long lifespan. Under normal operating conditions, lithium-ion batteries can be charged and discharged well over 500 times;

2. Can be used in parallel at will;

3. High gravimetric energy ratio and volumetric energy ratio;

4. No memory effect. Lithium-ion batteries do not have the memory effect found in nickel-cadmium batteries, so lithium-ion batteries should not be discharged before charging;

5. Low self-discharge and long storage time are the most prominent advantages of this battery;

6. Too expensive. Lithium-ion batteries are more expensive than other rechargeable batteries.

7. High voltage. The voltage of a single lithium-ion battery is 3.6V, equal to the voltage of three nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries connected in series;

8. The battery is the most advanced green battery because it does not contain heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and mercury, and does not pollute the environment.

9. It charges quickly. Lithium-ion batteries can typically be charged with a current of 0.5 to 1 times their capacity, reducing charging time to 1 to 2 hours.
