With energy issues becoming increasingly prominent, energy conservation and emission reduction have become unavoidable topics in work and life. Following the official release of the "National New Urbanization Plan," the green building industry has received significant attention. The government's comprehensive acceleration of China's green building development through financial subsidies and other means signifies that the nation has officially sounded the clarion call for green building development. As the lifeblood of buildings, electrical wires and cables are likely to see a surge in research and development of environmentally friendly building electrical wires and cables as the accelerated development of green buildings.

Green building refers to buildings that maximize energy, land, water, and material conservation throughout their entire life cycle, protect the environment and reduce pollution, provide people with healthy, suitable, and efficient living spaces, and coexist harmoniously with nature.

The construction industry is a major energy consumer among all industries, and super high-rise buildings require 25% to 30% more energy than ordinary high-rise buildings. By applying new energy-saving technologies, energy consumption can be effectively reduced, greatly reducing or eliminating negative environmental impacts. Green buildings, while utilizing energy-saving technologies, also emphasize the protection and utilization of the environment and ecology, focusing on sustainable development.

As the lifeblood of buildings, the green and environmentally friendly nature of electrical wires and cables is crucial. While buildings typically have a lifespan of 70 years, ordinary electrical wires and cables only last about 25 years. Wires and cables exceeding their lifespan are prone to aging, posing safety hazards and endangering personal safety. Therefore, achieving green environmental protection, safety, reliability, energy efficiency, and durability while ensuring the electrical performance of electrical wires and cables has become a key research and development focus for cable manufacturers.

Xia Lin, deputy chief engineer of Tongji University Architectural Design and Research (Group) Co., Ltd., pointed out that the energy-saving design of wires and cables in green buildings mainly considers the following two aspects: 1. Selecting cable and conductor cross-sections according to economic density to reduce annual losses and minimize investment throughout the service life; 2. Flexible and convenient wiring (office raised floor) to meet the needs of different tenants and avoid a large amount of redundant wiring.

"Whether cable products can be used in a project basically depends on the installation company. Wire and cable manufacturers need to establish close relationships with installation companies," said Chen Xiao, president of the Intelligent and Fire Protection Engineering Branch of the China Installation Association, in an interview. He added that even if the homeowner has chosen a cable brand, the product price and service must still meet the requirements of the installation company.

With the concepts of energy conservation, emission reduction, and energy efficiency gaining increasing popularity, the development of green buildings is an inevitable trend. As the lifeblood of buildings, electrical wires and cables will be propelled into a new stage of green and environmentally friendly development in the field of building wiring as green buildings develop.
