Dongfeng Motor Corporation and CATL signed a framework agreement to deepen their strategic cooperation. Dongfeng Motor Corporation's subsidiaries, Zhixin Technology, Dongfeng Changxing, and Dongfeng Hongtai, respectively signed sub-agreements with CATL and CATL's subsidiary, Guangdong Bangpu, including the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between Zhixin Technology and CATL," the "Cooperation Agreement between Dongfeng Changxing and CATL," and the "Framework Agreement on Cooperation between Dongfeng Hongtai and Guangdong Bangpu." Li Shaozhu and Zeng Yuqun also jointly issued the "Joint Development Task Book for Advanced Battery Technology for New Energy Vehicles."
Li Shaozhu stated that in recent years, Dongfeng Motor Corporation and CATL have established a strategic partnership, expanding their cooperation from the formation of a joint venture to the research, development, production, and sales of power lithium battery systems, and further to the joint development of Dongfeng's own new energy vehicle battery systems. The cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Dongfeng Motor Corporation and CATL have a solid foundation for strategic cooperation. Looking to the future, both parties will consolidate and expand their cooperation in areas such as joint ventures, joint development, and ecosystem building, fully leveraging their respective strengths to further deepen their strategic partnership.
Zeng Yuqun stated that during the pandemic, Dongfeng made a significant contribution to Wuhan's fight against the epidemic. Many of the electric vehicles providing transportation to communities and hospitals in Wuhan were Dongfeng vehicles with CATL batteries, which made CATL proud. In the future, the two companies will cooperate more closely to develop more new energy ecosystem technologies, launch more services, and develop better products. CATL will better serve Dongfeng's businesses in new energy vehicles, battery recycling, intelligent data, and future new technology research and development.
Review of cooperation between the two parties
In 2016, when new energy vehicles were still in their infancy, Dongfeng Motor Corporation joined hands with CATL and signed its first strategic cooperation agreement in Wuhan, laying a solid foundation for win-win cooperation between the two parties in the field of new energy.
In 2018, the Dongfeng era began in Wuhan. In the same year, CATL's first fast-charging, long-life battery cell, specifically designed for commercial vehicles, was mass-produced and applied for the first time in a Dongfeng model.
Over the past five years of cooperation, the two parties have successively launched a number of products that meet the actual needs of the market. These products have been widely used in Dongfeng's own brand new energy vehicles such as the Aeolus Yixuan EV, Aeolus E70, Venucia D60EV, and Venucia T60EV, bringing new solutions to the market and receiving high praise from consumers.
In a subsequent exchange, You Zheng said that the signing of this strategic cooperation framework agreement is an important step for Dongfeng Motor Corporation and CATL to implement the spirit of the 2020 National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
