As of the end of June this year, my country's cumulative installed capacity of power batteries reached 531.9 GWh, maintaining its leading position globally. Among them, the installed capacity of automotive power batteries reached 110.1 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 109.8%. Power battery companies are continuously accelerating technological iteration and research into new batteries, leading to a rapid improvement in power battery technology and further enhancing their international competitiveness.

With the rapid expansion of electric drive systems into fields such as automobiles, rail transportation, cruise ships, cargo ships, and agricultural machinery, my country's power battery industry has experienced rapid development in recent years, with a significant increase in its overall strength. In 2021, my country's installed power battery capacity totaled 154.5 gigawatt-hours, accounting for approximately 50% of the global installed capacity. Among the top 10 global power battery companies in terms of installed capacity, Chinese companies occupied 6 positions, with a market share of approximately 48%.

Looking at the rankings of power battery manufacturers in the Chinese domestic market, the top 10 companies include CATL, BYD, Zhongchuang Xinhang, Guoxuan High-Tech, LG Chem, SVOLT Energy, Sunwoda, EVE Energy, Farasis Energy, and REPT Energy. Of the top 10 domestic power battery manufacturers, only one wholly foreign-owned company, LG Chem, holds a 2.85% market share, clearly demonstrating the absolute dominance of domestic brands.

Of course, fierce competition exists among power battery companies, which are constantly accelerating technological iteration and research into new battery types. my country has formed a complete industrial chain covering basic materials, individual battery cells, battery systems, and manufacturing equipment. Its global market share of anode materials has reached 90%, and its self-sufficiency rate for separator materials exceeds 90%. The system energy density of ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries is at an internationally leading level.

At the same time, the level of power battery technology has been rapidly improved. For example, CATL released the third-generation CTP - Kirin Battery, which has a volume utilization rate of over 72% and an energy density of up to 255Wh/kg, enabling the vehicle to achieve a range of 1,000 kilometers. BYD's CTB battery-body integration technology further improves the utilization rate of the battery's internal space and its volumetric energy density.

Other products include Zhongchuang Innovation Aviation's soft-shell battery and Honeycomb Energy's short-blade battery. Honeycomb Energy's short-blade battery is considered a strong point due to its higher assembly efficiency, higher safety, lower overall battery system cost, and faster charging speed. In addition, in July of this year, the company developed a new generation of 20Ah-grade sulfur-based all-solid-state prototype battery cells. After mass production, these cells will enable new energy vehicles to achieve a range of over 1,000 kilometers.

However, while companies are rapidly improving their technological capabilities, the power battery industry also faces significant challenges. These include the uncertain impact of the unstable pandemic situation, rising prices of raw materials and the four main components leading to increased battery costs, a shortage of power battery chips resulting in extended battery pack supply cycles, and the challenges that low-carbon development poses to companies' ability to integrate the supply chain.

In response to rising battery costs and a shortage of power battery chips, my country has initially established a recycling system. As of the end of June this year, my country had built a total of 10,171 new energy vehicle power battery recycling service outlets, basically achieving localized recycling of retired batteries. As a post-cycle industry of lithium batteries, the demand for power battery recycling is expected to increase year by year due to the prosperity of the industry chain, which will alleviate the pressure of cost and material shortages to a certain extent.

Currently, in the context of the new energy vehicle power battery industry where "the world looks to East Asia" and "East Asia looks to China," battery companies still need to continuously innovate their products, accelerate breakthroughs in key core technologies, and continuously expand high-quality production capacity. After all, technology is the concentrated embodiment of competitive strength. Power battery technology updates and iterates rapidly, and breakthroughs are difficult. A small step in technology often leads to a giant leap for the industry.
