Advantages of welding robots

With the development of electronic technology, computer technology, numerical control and robotics technology, automatic welding robots, since their application in production in the 1960s, have become increasingly mature in technology, and have the following main advantages:

1. Stabilizes and improves welding quality, and can reflect welding quality in numerical form;

2. Improve labor productivity;

3. Reduces the workload of workers, allowing them to work in hazardous environments;

4. It reduces the technical requirements for workers;

5. It shortens the preparation cycle for product upgrades and reduces corresponding equipment investment.

Therefore, welding robots have been widely used in various industries.

1. Production line

A relatively simple welding robot production line connects multiple workstations (units) using a workpiece conveyor line to form a production line. This type of production line still retains the characteristics of a single station, meaning that each station can only weld predetermined workpieces using selected workpiece fixtures and welding robot programs. For a period of time before the fixtures and programs are changed, this line cannot weld other workpieces.

Another type is the Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS-W). This flexible line also consists of multiple stations, but unlike the FMS-W, the workpieces to be welded are all mounted on standardized pallets. These pallets can be automatically clamped and engaged with positioners at any station on the line. The welding robot system first identifies the pallet number or the workpiece, then automatically retrieves the welding program for that workpiece.

2. Application in automobile production

Welding robots are now widely used in the automotive manufacturing industry, for welding components such as car chassis, seat frames, guide rails, mufflers, and hydraulic torque converters, especially in the production of car chassis. Toyota has decided to equip all its spot welding robots, both domestically and overseas, with spot welding as a standard feature. This technology can improve welding quality, and there are even attempts to use it to replace certain arc welding operations. Movement time over short distances is also significantly reduced. The company recently introduced a low-profile spot welding robot for welding lower body parts.

3. Underwater applications

As an important component of marine engineering equipment technology, marine welding has become an indispensable foundational and supporting technology for marine resource development and marine engineering construction.
