Purpose and Principle of PLC Module

A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is based on a microprocessor and combines computer technology, automatic control technology, and communication technology to program the control process into the user's "natural language." It is suitable for industrial environments, easy to understand, simple to operate, and highly reliable. PLCs are widely used in industries such as steel, petroleum, chemical, power, building materials, machinery manufacturing, automotive, textile, transportation, environmental protection, and cultural entertainment. What are the uses and principles of a PLC module?

1. PLC Working Principle

The PLC uses a cyclic scanning method with centralized input and output. Its advantages are high reliability and strong anti-interference capability. Its disadvantages are slow response speed and response lag. The PLC uses a watchdog timer (WDT) to monitor whether the scan exceeds the preset time.

2. Application areas of PLC

Currently, PLCs are widely used in industries such as steel, petroleum, chemical, power, building materials, machinery manufacturing, automobiles, textiles, transportation, environmental protection, and cultural entertainment. Switching logic control is the most basic and widespread application area of PLCs. It replaces traditional relay circuits, realizing logic control and sequential control; it can be used for single-device control, as well as multi-unit control and automated assembly lines, such as injection molding machines, printing machines, ordering machines, combination machine tools, grinding machines, packaging production lines, and electroplating assembly lines.

In industrial production processes, many quantities are constantly changing, such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, liquid level, and speed. When processing analog signals, PLCs must perform A/D and D/A conversions between analog and digital signals. PLC manufacturers produce A/D and D/A conversion modules to enable PLCs for analog control. Currently, it is generally used in specialized motion control modules, such as single-axis or multi-axis position control modules that can drive stepper motors or servo motors. Almost all products from the world's major PLC manufacturers have motion control capabilities and are widely used in various machines, machine tools, robots, elevators, and other applications.

What are the uses and principles of a PLC module? After scanning the user program, the PLC enters the output refresh phase. During this period, the CPU refreshes all output latching circuits based on the corresponding status and data of the I/O image area, and then drives the corresponding external devices through the output circuits. This is the basic structure at this point. The PLC actually outputs data. L-memory area (local memory area): While the V-memory area is globally valid, the L-memory area is only locally valid. Local memory requires dynamic allocation by the CPU. When an interrupt program is interrupted or a subroutine is called, the CPU allocates local memory to the interrupt program or subroutine. Furthermore, local memory needs to be initialized during allocation because the assigned data is random.
