It is understood that the full name of a sodium battery is sodium-ion battery. Its working principle is: during charging, sodium ions will be separated from the positive electrode material and then, with the help of the electrolyte, be inserted into the negative electrode material.
Meanwhile, electrons are transferred to the negative electrode through the external circuit to maintain charge balance, and the opposite occurs during discharge. In fact, the working principles of sodium batteries and lithium batteries are very similar.
The difference lies in the fact that lithium batteries charge and discharge by moving and converting lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes, while sodium batteries transfer charge by inserting and detaching sodium ions between the positive and negative electrodes.
