According to foreign media reports, Unifrax, a global manufacturer of high-performance specialty materials, plans to build its first large-scale SiFAB (silicon fiber anode material) production line at its factory in north-central Indiana.

SiFAB is a proprietary silicon anode battery technology developed by Unifrax. This technology enables lithium-ion battery systems to achieve significantly higher energy densities than mainstream technologies. The proprietary nanoporous fiber structure possesses optimal shape and porosity to accommodate the expansion characteristics of silicon, extending cycle life.

SiFAB can be incorporated into anode slurries in existing battery manufacturing processes, and its industrial-scale processes have been validated to meet large-scale supply chain demands. Advanced testing is currently underway, and SiFAB has demonstrated excellent performance in multiple battery systems. This anode technology has successfully passed tests with increases in silicon loading exceeding 40%.

SiFAB is expected to be used in applications such as electric vehicles, portable electronics, power tools, grid energy storage, and aerospace. In addition to higher energy density, it will also provide faster charging speeds and longer battery life.

John Dandolph, President and CEO of Unifrax, stated, "SiFAB represents the latest advancement in using fiber-based technology to create transformative value for our customers. This revolutionary material will become another new member of our portfolio of electric vehicle and battery solutions."
