Articulated robots, also known as articulated robotic arms or multi-joint robots, have joints that move in a rotational manner, similar to a human arm. Articulated robots are one of the most common types of industrial robots in today's industrial sectors, suitable for automated mechanical operations in many industries.
Advantages of multi-joint robots:
1. It has a high degree of freedom, with 5-6 axes, making it suitable for work on almost any trajectory or angle;
2. It can be freely programmed to complete fully automated tasks;
3. Improve production efficiency and controllable error rate;
4. It can replace many complex tasks that are unsuitable for manual labor and harmful to health, such as spot welding of automobile shells.
Disadvantages of multi-joint robots:
1. High price leads to high initial investment costs.
2. The extensive preparatory work before production, such as programming and computer simulation processes, is time-consuming.
Multi-joint robots can be classified according to their structure, such as five-axis and six-axis jointed robots, pallet jointed robots, and planar jointed robots (SCARA). They can also be classified according to their working nature, such as handling robots, spot welding robots, arc welding robots, painting robots, laser cutting robots, etc.
