(a) PROFINET Recommended Links
The IE/PB LINK HA is a gateway between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS DP. It enables seamless integration of PROFIBUS devices with the PROFINET fieldbus. In this configuration, the IE/PB LINK HA acts as a proxy, meaning that from the perspective of the I/O controller, the integrated DP slave is treated as an I/O device with an Ethernet interface.
The diagram below shows two ways to integrate IE/PB LINK HA into a PROFINET system.
(1) Integrate IE/PB LINK HA into PROFINET S2 system
(2) Integrate IE/PB LINK HA into redundant PROFINET R1 systems
When using the IE/PB LINK HA as a PROFINET S2 device, a maximum of 64 PROFIBUS DP slaves can be operated. For the IE/PB LINK HA as an S2 device, the number of DP inputs/outputs is limited to 2048 bytes. For Y-LINK devices, the maximum number of inputs and outputs is 240 bytes. Note: In the PCS 7 environment, the IE/PB link does not support modular DP slaves.
(II) Classic PROFIBUS DP Connection
Y-Link can create a gateway from a redundant DP master system to a lower-level DP master system. Y-Link consists of two IM 153-2 interface modules and a Y-coupler.
The Y-Link connects to the redundant DP master system via an interface module, and remote I/O devices connect to the Y-Link via Y-couplers. One Y-Link can operate up to 64 PROFIBUS DP slaves. The following diagram shows an example of how to establish a connection.
