How important are RV reducers for industrial robots?

One of the most critical mechanical structures of industrial robots is the RV reducer. To this day, my country still lacks the capability to design and manufacture it. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the national "863" program listed it as a key technological bottleneck to be overcome.

As a core component of industrial robots, precision reducers, compared with general reducers, require RV reducers for robots to have characteristics such as short transmission chain, small size, high power, light weight and easy control. However, the key to RV reducers lies in the processing technology and assembly technology.

It is understood that the RV reducer is composed of a cycloidal pinwheel and a planetary support. With its many advantages such as small size, strong impact resistance, large torque, high positioning accuracy, low vibration, and large reduction ratio, it is widely used in industrial robots, machine tools, medical testing equipment, satellite receiving systems and other fields, and is increasingly attracting widespread attention at home and abroad.

It is worth mentioning that RV reducers have good rigidity, strong impact resistance, smooth transmission, and high precision, making them suitable for medium and heavy load applications. However, RV reducers need to transmit a large amount of torque. What seems like a simple reducer is actually a challenge to my country's industrial infrastructure. Without a thorough understanding of the relevant materials, heat treatment, and processes, it is to be expected that it will be difficult to produce the precision reducers required by robots.
