In response, Joshua Pierce, an associate professor at Michigan Tech, said, "If the snow completely covers the solar panels, only a small portion of sunlight will penetrate the snow and reach the solar panels, so the energy produced will obviously be less."
He added, "Even a small amount of snow covering the solar panels can significantly reduce the overall power generation of the system."
Regarding these issues, research is currently underway on whether solar panels can continue to generate electricity in extremely cold climates.
The expected losses will affect energy spending for solar energy users, but will only have a significant impact on those who rely entirely on solar photovoltaic power generation and do not have traditional grid-connected power generation.

“When snow falls on the ground and the solar panels are not covered by anything, the snow on the ground acts like a mirror, reflecting sunlight back, which increases the power generation of the solar panels,” Pierce said. “In many cases, the reflection of snow can slightly boost photovoltaic power generation.”
Pierce described several methods they used to increase the power generation of their solar panels in snowy conditions.
Tips for generating electricity in snowy weather:
1. Remove snow in a timely manner.
At this point, you might need a tennis ball. Using the ball to bounce and vibrate on the tilted solar panels to make the snow slide off would be a great idea. Of course, other tools can also be used. You'll find that this will multiply the efficiency of your power generation system;
2. Install solar panels at a large angle
This reduces the rate of snow accumulation and eliminates the hassle of frequent snow removal. "When you're hesitating between 30 degrees and 40 degrees, 40 is clearly a better option," Pierce stated.

The snow won't accumulate at the bottom as it slides down, and eventually build up and cover the entire battery assembly.
