The Industrial Internet is currently a hot topic. From an application technology perspective, common concepts within the Industrial Internet can be categorized into four areas: AI, IoT, OT, and IT.

AI

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is used in the Industrial Internet for language (recognition and execution), motion recognition, machine control, machine learning (model training), and multiple intelligence scenarios.

IoT

IoT, or Internet of Things, is used in the Industrial Internet for equipment sensing (heat, light, pressure, flow, smoke, etc.), equipment identification (identity recognition), communication interaction (data interaction), and data transmission (narrowband IoT, 4G modules).

OT

OT stands for Industrial Automation Technology, which includes control, monitoring, instrumentation, sensors, and robotics technologies.

IT

IT refers to internet technology, encompassing information networks, hardware, and software. In simpler terms, it includes network technology, communication technology, storage and security, and software applications. IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is a network protocol technology used in the Industrial Internet to bridge external and internal interconnections, establishing a link for industrial data collection, statistics, remote monitoring, and analysis.

Current methods of integrating and applying industrial internet technologies:

AI+OT, or Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Automation Technology, refers to the use of artificial intelligence facilities and equipment to connect with industrial equipment, establish physical and network connections, and collect, interact with, and control industrial automation equipment to achieve human-machine interaction, data sharing and exchange, collection and control, and intelligent analysis.

IoT+OT+IT, or Internet of Things and Industrial Automation Technology, refers to using the Internet of Things to remotely collect data from industrial equipment, and using IT technology to process industrial data, thereby realizing data collection, interaction, and control in the Industrial Internet.

IT+OT, or Internet and Industrial Automation Technology, refers to the use of IT technology to collect and analyze industrial data, providing data support for management, production, and operations.

With the continuous introduction of industrial internet policies and the need for industrial enterprises to reduce costs and increase efficiency, the industrial internet industry has gained a booming market opportunity due to the dual demand. From the perspective of industrial internet platforms that have been built or are under construction, the earliest batch adopted the IT+OT model. The IoT+OT+IT model is now more common and is the best solution in terms of construction cost, implementation cycle, and application value. The AI+OT model is the best in terms of technological advancement, but the high cost of artificial intelligence facilities and equipment will inevitably lead to a significant increase in construction costs. Therefore, there are not many projects that adopt this model. Even though many companies have added AI to increase the competitiveness of their projects, most of them are only small-scale applications or just concepts.
