One of the most critical components of electric vehicles is the power battery. With the continuous improvement of battery density and driving range, more and more people are concerned about battery safety. Currently, the main types of power batteries used in pure electric vehicles are lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium batteries. Regardless of the type used, they all rely on lithium batteries. During vehicle operation, electrical energy is partially converted into chemical energy, and a portion is converted into heat and other forms of energy. Battery heating is a normal phenomenon, but given battery safety concerns, how can we address the persistent issue of lithium battery thermal runaway?

Due to the special nature of batteries, their use and management are subject to very strict requirements. To avoid thermal runaway, current power batteries are designed with thermal runaway prevention in mind during the battery construction process. As we know, current power batteries have thermal management systems, which include ventilation, cooling, and other systems. Furthermore, in battery cell design, the safety performance of individual cells is continuously improved through the comprehensive application of technologies such as thermal control technology (PTC electrodes), ceramic coatings on the positive and negative electrode surfaces, overcharge protection additives, voltage-sensitive separators, and flame-retardant electrolytes.

Secondly, for power batteries, establishing a set of mandatory safety standards and specifications can ensure that battery safety is controllable and preventable. Although the safety of lithium batteries cannot be completely eliminated due to their inherent characteristics, the entire electric vehicle thermal management industry is on the verge of explosive growth and transformation.

With the continuous innovation and upgrading of power battery thermal management solutions, the overall industry technology is also constantly improving.
