Our world is becoming increasingly "digital," yet many of our daily interactions still rely on paper. Items such as corrugated packaging, printed photographs, marketing materials, newspapers, or currency are all produced by sophisticated machines that operate for extended periods. The movements of these machines must be precise, reliable, and durable to meet the stringent uptime requirements of their respective processes.
Application Challenges
Product miniaturization - Although applications vary widely, most paper processing equipment is powered by multiple motors. Smaller motors provide the appropriate torque and speed, making the entire machine smaller and lighter.
Power and performance - High-speed motors are almost always the preferred choice during the paper feeding and output stages of the printing process.
Flexibility - Low-speed motors are required for fine-tuning during the printing process.
Durability - Dust, oil, and ink can accumulate on the drive wheels and contaminate the bearings and gearbox.
Typical motion solutions
motor
Pittman DC motors are available in a variety of frame sizes and magnetic technologies (diameters from 26 to 54 mm, rated power up to 100 W). These motors are designed to provide smooth low-speed operation, quiet running, and long lifespan.
gearbox
Haydon Kerk Pittman offers a range of cost-effective spur gearboxes featuring sintered metal gears that complement our motors. These gearboxes provide designers with exceptional flexibility when used with Haydon Kerk Pittman motors. The spur gearboxes feature a biased output shaft with either plain or ball bearings, optional lubricants suitable for extreme temperatures, and high-performance acetal resin gears for noise reduction. They also feature a shortened housing and a variety of gear ratios.
HKP also offers a range of planetary gears with different gear ratios and stages. The planetary series provides a central output shaft for servo and continuous power transmission applications. Planetary gearboxes are equipped with plastic or metal gears, and custom-designed sliding or ball bearings can be used on the input and output shafts.
