An industrial control computer (ICC) is a computer used for control, monitoring, data acquisition, or automation control. It is commonly used in industrial control, machine operation monitoring, and data acquisition. As an important control system, ICCCs have wide applications in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and energy. The material of the ICCC chassis, which serves as its protective enclosure, is also of paramount importance.

An industrial computer chassis refers to the outer shell that protects the industrial computer from external environmental influences. Chassis materials generally include metal, plastic, sheet metal, and cast iron. These materials each have different characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages. Different scenarios and applications require the selection of different chassis materials to ensure the most stable operation of the industrial computer.

Metal chassis are the mainstream material for industrial PC enclosures, with aluminum alloy and steel plate chassis being the most common types. Compared to chassis made of other materials, metal chassis offer higher strength and better heat dissipation. In industrial environments, industrial PCs often require protection to prevent damage, and metal chassis provide excellent physical, waterproof, and dustproof protection.

Plastic chassis are another commonly used chassis material. They are lightweight, soundproof, heat-insulating, inexpensive, and have good insulation properties. In indoor environments, plastic chassis can provide sufficient protection for industrial control computers. However, their mechanical strength is relatively low, making them susceptible to damage from external impacts. Long-term use can cause the chassis to deform, affecting the stable operation of the machine.

Sheet metal chassis, also known as cold-rolled sheet metal chassis, are processed from thin, lightweight sheet metal through stamping, folding, and other techniques. They are commonly used in industrial automation production lines and power control cabinets, computer room equipment protection, broadcasting and communications, transportation, elevator monitoring, and smart homes. Compared to traditional metal chassis, sheet metal chassis are lighter and their superior heat dissipation performance provides better protection for industrial control computers in various environments.

Cast iron chassis are chassis made of cast iron, which have high strength and shock resistance. However, cast iron chassis are relatively bulky compared to other chassis materials, and their heat dissipation performance is not as good as that of metal or sheet metal chassis.

Different industrial scenarios require different chassis materials. Generally, aluminum alloy, steel plate, or sheet metal chassis are good choices, offering good mechanical strength and heat dissipation, adaptability to various industrial environments, and high corrosion resistance, waterproofing, and dustproofing. Selecting high-quality chassis materials is also crucial to ensuring the safe and stable operation of industrial control computers.
