How to balance the use and maintenance of automotive lithium-ion batteries

Self-balancing scooters are a popular mode of transportation, widely used in clubs, communities, and large companies. Their compact and simple design makes them a suitable and trendy choice, saving valuable space compared to other items. After a day or two of use, one can become quite proficient with a self-balancing scooter. However, a crucial component of the scooter is the lithium-ion battery. While the lithium-ion battery provides power, it inevitably suffers from excessive wear and tear during use, reducing its lifespan. Therefore, proper maintenance of the self-balancing scooter, especially the battery, is essential.

Precautions for the use and maintenance of lithium-ion batteries for self-balancing scooters

1. The lithium-ion battery of the self-balancing scooter must be charged with a dedicated charger. The charging stability of each charger is different. Do not replace the charger, otherwise it may damage the battery.

2. Develop the habit of charging more each day. Although a single charge can last for several hours or even longer, it's still beneficial to get into the habit of charging daily to keep the battery in a shallow cycle and extend its lifespan.

3. In addition to charging daily, charge the battery as soon as possible after use to ensure it is fully charged. Failure to charge promptly will cause the battery capacity to gradually decrease, shortening its lifespan.

4. To ensure you can use a dedicated charger to balance the charging of your car's lithium-ion battery, it's essential to protect the charger from damage. When you purchase a balance scooter, an instruction manual for protecting the charger is usually included. Make it a habit to read the manual and follow its instructions to protect the charger. Don't wait until problems arise before looking for the manual; by then, it's too late, and you'll regret it. During charging, ensure good ventilation to allow the charger to fully heat up, thus extending its lifespan.

Page 2: Cylindrical lithium-ion batteries are classified into lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide, and ternary lithium-ion batteries. These three types of batteries have different advantages. They are widely used in laptops, digital cameras, lighting fixtures, toys, power tools, portable energy sources, and other fields. What are the structural characteristics of cylindrical lithium-ion batteries? The following is an introduction from our technical staff.

Cylindrical batteries are a common battery structure. Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) and lithium-ion batteries are cylindrical, as are newly developed power lead-acid batteries. Cylindrical batteries have been standardized, ranging from the smallest 0.1Ah AAAA cylindrical battery to higher-capacity batteries of approximately 10Ah, forming an internationally consistent series of specifications.

1. Cylindrical battery structure

(1) Cylindrical batteries are generally used. The structure of a cylindrical battery is shown in Figure 3-4. A cylindrical battery consists of a casing, a cap, a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a potential barrier, and an electrolyte. Generally speaking, the battery casing is the negative electrode, and the cap is the positive electrode. The battery casing is made of nickel-plated steel plate.

(2) The key difference between power cylindrical batteries lies in the conductive connection structure of the battery, because power lithium batteries generally use a relatively large current, and a large current structure needs to be specially planned.

To facilitate assembly and connection, special connection and assembly devices were designed based on the original cylindrical battery structure. For example, internal threads or studs were designed on both the positive and negative terminals of the battery to improve conductivity.

2. Characteristics of cylindrical batteries

Advantages: Cylindrical batteries have formed a series of internationally consistent specifications and models, and the process is relatively mature, making them suitable for large-scale continuous production. The cylinder has a large specific surface area and good heat dissipation. (3) Cylindrical batteries are generally sealed batteries and are not protected during use. (4) The high-voltage battery casing will not exhibit the swelling phenomenon seen in square or soft-pack batteries during use.

Disadvantages: Battery connections are typically made in series, using methods such as spot welding or laser welding. Generally, cylindrical batteries have limited conductivity, so they can be reprogrammed to meet the requirements for conductive connections (including connections within and between electric vehicle batteries).
