EX Series DeviceNET Bus Adapter

In the field of modern industrial automation, distributed I/O systems have significant advantages and are an effective means to improve system performance, reduce costs, and enhance reliability.

The EX-1010 is a DeviceNET bus adapter from the DEKW EX series of expansion modules, with each module capable of supporting up to 32 input/output modules. DeviceNET is an open, low-cost, high-performance communication network based on CAN (Controller Area Network) technology, developed in the mid-1990s and conforming to global industry standards. It improves design flexibility, enhances data management, and reduces installation costs.

This module is widely used in industrial automation, robotics, servo control systems, elevators, motor control, and other mechanical equipment that requires precise control of position and speed feedback.

Today we will introduce the connection and configuration of the Dekwell EX-1010 and CX-one.

01. Communication Connection Diagram

Note: The power interface on the DeviceNet adapter needs to be connected to a separate DC24V power supply. Termination resistors (121Ω) need to be added to both ends of the network. The connection method of the termination resistor is shown in the figure below.

02. Hardware Configuration

03. Install GSD files

Open the CX-Integrator configuration software, select "Tools" > "DeviceNET Tools" > "Edit Configuration File" > "Supplier ID/Device Type Table" in the menu bar.

03. Equipment Configuration (Automatic Scan)

Open the CX-Integrator configuration software, select "Network" > "Communication Settings" in the menu bar, and select the PLC model as "CJ2M (CPU model: CPU31)".

Automatic scanning: Click the "Online Work" button, double-click DeviceNet[CJ1W-DRM21] network (one), node (1), unit (0), and set the network name. Confirm the transfer, as shown in the figure. Double-click EX-1010 to see if the Omron PLC can detect the EX-1010 slave station and IO module.

Right-click the EX-1010 icon above the scanner, select "Properties", click "I/O Information" > "Edit", and configure the number of input and output bytes of the adapter according to the input and output byte size.

05. Equipment Configuration (Manual Configuration)

On the right, select "New Project," then "Insert Network," and finally "DeviceNet."

In the inserted network, first add the DeviceNet communication module CJ1W-DRM21, then add the IO device. Right-click the network icon > "Insert Component", and select EX-1010 in the wizard window.

In the network, double-click EX-1010, and add an IO module in the pop-up Edit Device Parameters window (taking EX-310H and EX-200H as examples).

Right-click EX-1010 on the network, select "Properties", and in the EX-1010 Properties window, select "I/O Information" > "Edit".

06. Download configuration information

Right-click the “CJ1W-DR2M” icon and select “Parameters” > “Edit”.

In the device parameter editing window, select the "Register" button to register the slave device, as shown in the figure. After successful registration, you can see the PLC internal addresses corresponding to the slave I/O module inputs and outputs. Finally, click the "Download" button to download the configuration information to the PLC, as shown in the figure. After the download is complete, you can observe that the adapter's NET RUN indicator light is lit, and the SYS light flashes once per second.
