In recent years, with the improvement of national consumption power and changes in consumption patterns, the express delivery and special cargo industries have experienced sustained and rapid growth, leading to a surge in demand for air transport. The domestic express air transport market has enormous potential for demand for air cargo aircraft, prompting the establishment of a three-tiered logistics system: trunk lines, feeder lines, and last-mile delivery. Trunk lines primarily involve hub-to-hub transport of bulk cargo, typically using converted cargo aircraft such as the B757. However, for end consumers, the "last mile" delivery problem remains relatively unresolved for feeder lines. This is especially true for inter-provincial medium- and long-haul routes, where point-to-point, small- to medium-sized cargo volumes are crucial, particularly in remote areas of central and western China, mountainous regions, and islands. Therefore, the emergence of logistics drones can address this industry pain point.

Starting December 15, 2022, two standards related to drone delivery, namely the "Operational Requirements for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Logistics Delivery" and the "Information Interaction Specifications for Postal and Express Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Supervision," will officially come into effect. The successive introduction of industry standards for drone delivery reflects the necessity for the industry's development. In real life, drone applications are ubiquitous: drones deliver packages, transport samples, deliver food… Drones of all sizes shuttle back and forth in the low sky, their intelligent, agile, precise, and efficient capabilities contributing to the construction of my country's low-altitude logistics network.

Drone logistics refers to the planning, implementation, and control of the flow of physical goods from the supply location to the receiving location, primarily utilizing drone technology. In simpler terms, it means using drones as the main tool for logistics activities, or leveraging drones to accomplish critical tasks within logistics operations.

The essence of drone logistics is to use advanced production tools to develop productivity. It is the result of the mechanization, automation and intelligentization of the logistics industry, and can also be regarded as an important branch of the smart logistics system.

I. Application of Logistics Drones

1. Express delivery

The most common application of logistics drones is express delivery. Drones can complete delivery in a short time, greatly reducing delivery time. At the same time, drones can avoid traffic congestion and waste of human resources, thus reducing delivery costs.

2. Medical supplies distribution

In some remote areas or disaster zones, logistics drones can be used for the delivery of medical supplies. Drones can quickly deliver urgently needed medicines, medical equipment, and other supplies to where they are needed, providing strong support for relief efforts.

3. Agricultural plant protection

Logistics drones can also be used for agricultural plant protection. Drones can be equipped with sprayers, measuring instruments, and other equipment to precisely spray and monitor crops, improving agricultural production efficiency and quality.

4. Environmental monitoring

Drones can be equipped with various sensors to monitor the environment. For example, drones can be used to monitor air quality and water quality, providing data support for environmental protection.

II. Development Trends of Logistics Drones

1. Continuous technological upgrades

As technology continues to advance, the performance of logistics drones will also continue to improve. For example, the endurance, payload capacity, and flight stability of drones will all be enhanced, making their applications more widespread.

2. Increased level of intelligence

The level of intelligence in logistics drones will continue to improve. For example, drones can use artificial intelligence technology to achieve functions such as autonomous flight and obstacle avoidance, thereby improving their safety and reliability.

3. Application scenarios are constantly expanding

As logistics drone technology continues to develop, its application scenarios will continue to expand. For example, drones can be used in urban logistics, maritime logistics, polar logistics, and other fields, providing more comprehensive services to the logistics industry.

4. Laws and regulations are gradually being improved.

The application of logistics drones still faces some legal and regulatory restrictions. As relevant laws and regulations are gradually improved, the application of logistics drones will become more standardized and safer.

In conclusion, logistics drones, as a new type of logistics delivery method, have broad application prospects and development potential. With continuous technological upgrades and the expansion of application scenarios, it is believed that logistics drones will play an increasingly important role in the future logistics industry.
