As is well known, the pollution problems in the lead-acid battery industry mainly lie in the recycling process. The main collectors of lead-acid batteries are individual companies. After collecting waste batteries, these companies may burn them or smash the battery terminals and dump the waste acid and lead sludge inside, causing pollution. In addition, useful plastics, such as plates, are handed over to factories with no guarantee of environmental protection and that operate illegally, which will cause secondary pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce some implementable rules to regulate the collection channels.
Lead-acid battery recycling is a critical issue, and collection channels are key. It is recommended to leverage third-party resources to establish a nationwide, standardized collection network. If no company has the capacity to organize a nationwide standardized network, efforts should focus on standardizing existing collection teams. Some companies engaged in waste battery recycling have established their own collection networks, but they need exemplary, standardized companies to guide them. Leading lead-acid battery companies are encouraged to make reasonable use of their sales channels to collect the lead-acid batteries they sell and then process them.
The author believes that having professional collection companies collect batteries locally and then entrusting qualified local enterprises to process them is a feasible approach. However, the next step is to explore a way to standardize collection channels. A more advanced practice abroad is to establish a lead-acid battery recycling association and a third-party organization, which has strong reference value for my country. Lead-acid battery recycling requires enterprises, individuals, and related organizations to raise their awareness, thereby creating an environment conducive to rational recycling and striving to form a lead-acid battery recycling method with Chinese characteristics. This would be a crucial step towards making the lead-acid battery industry a truly environmentally friendly industry.
