Precautions for charging lithium-ion batteries

2026-04-06 04:34:42 · · #1

Lithium-ion batteries are the preferred choice for upgrading electric vehicle batteries. Their green and environmentally friendly qualities have been widely recognized since their widespread adoption in portable communication devices such as mobile phones. These batteries, produced without water or heavy metals, use carbon and lithium salts as their main raw materials, and all exhaust gases are recycled; they produce no solid pollution, minimizing their environmental impact. Lithium-ion batteries weigh less than 3 kilograms, much lighter than the 15-kilogram lead-acid batteries; in terms of performance, lithium-ion batteries also outperform lead-acid batteries, capable of normal charging and discharging from -20℃ to 55℃, and have a lifespan 3 to 4 times longer. It is predicted that lithium-ion battery electric vehicles will become widespread within the next 3 to 5 years. However, the current high price of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles still deters consumers. It is believed that in a few years, as lithium-ion battery production technology matures, they will become more affordable and accessible to ordinary households.

Lithium batteries for electric vehicles will become widely used. So how should these batteries be properly charged? Here are three points explained in detail:

1. Place a power source:

The battery packs all have some charge remaining before leaving the factory, which can be used for short-distance riding after the electric vehicle is sold. After the first ride, the battery must be charged for the first time, and it is recommended that the first charge be carried out for a relatively long time (8-12 hours).

Battery packs should be charged promptly after use and should not be stored at a low charge. If batteries are left unused for more than two months, they need to be fully charged. If stored for more than five months, they need to undergo a charge-discharge cycle. Regular use of the batteries, including charging them regularly during normal use and extended periods of storage, will ensure optimal performance and extend their lifespan.

2. Normal charging:

The proper method for charging a battery pack is as follows: First, connect the charger to the battery pack being charged, and then connect the charger's power plug to a 220V AC power source. (This connection sequence avoids electrical sparks when plugging and unplugging the charger.) Once the power is on, the charger will display a red indicator light, indicating that the battery pack is charging normally. A typical charging time is 6-8 hours.

3. Charger

Precautions: To ensure safe charging and extend the battery pack's lifespan, this battery pack should only be charged with the 36V lithium battery charger provided by our company. If the charger is lost or damaged, please contact the authorized dealer for a replacement. Do not use lead-acid chargers or other types of chargers.
