Precautions for the first charge:
1. Dry-charged batteries can be used in emergencies within the specified storage period after adding electrolyte of standard specific gravity and letting them stand for 30 minutes. However, they should still be initially charged according to the charging specifications afterwards.
2. During charging, control the battery temperature and do not exceed 37 degrees Celsius. Open the individual battery cell cover to ensure proper ventilation.
3. Maintain the effective height of the electrohydraulic fluid level, exceeding the electrode plate by 5mm;
4. Ensure the electrolyte specific gravity is normal;
5. After the charger enters the float charging state, it will remain in this state for 1-1.5 hours before stopping charging.
6. New batteries should ideally be charged, discharged, charged, discharged, and recharged before use.
Electric vehicles, also known as electric-driven vehicles, are vehicles powered by electricity. Electric vehicles are divided into AC electric vehicles and DC electric vehicles. Generally speaking, an electric vehicle uses a battery as its energy source, and through components such as a controller and motor, it converts electrical energy into mechanical energy for movement, with speed adjusted by controlling the magnitude of the current.
The first electric vehicle was built in 1881 by French engineer Gustave Truffaut. It was a three-wheeled vehicle powered by lead-acid batteries and driven by a DC motor. Today, electric vehicles have undergone tremendous changes and come in a wide variety of types.
Electric vehicle batteries are lead-acid batteries, which have no memory effect. There's no need to intentionally discharge the battery completely before recharging for the first time. The battery is fully activated at the factory. Simply choose the appropriate charging time based on your power consumption. Please refer to the following charging and discharging instructions:
When the battery is 100% depleted, the charging time with a matching charger is generally around 8 to 10 hours. Do not exceed 12 hours (as this will affect battery life). It is not recommended to use the battery completely every time you use it. It is generally recommended to charge the battery when it is around 70% depleted, and the charging time is 6 to 8 hours.
For short-range users, we recommend charging in the following way:
If daily electricity consumption is 10%, it can be charged once a week;
If daily power consumption is 20%, it can be charged once every three days;
If daily electricity consumption is 30%, it can be charged every two days;
If your daily electricity consumption is above 40%, you can charge it once a day, and control the charging time, which is generally around 6 hours.
Most electric vehicle battery chargers use a three-stage charging mode:
The first stage is constant current and voltage limiting. For example, when charging a 48V 20AH battery pack, the current is typically 3A and the voltage limit is 59.2V.
The second stage is constant voltage and current limiting. When the current drops to the value at which the lamp trips, proceed to the next step. Maintain a constant voltage of 59.2V and limit the current to 3A. When the current drops to 0.55A, the lamp trips.
The third stage is trickle charging, also known as maintenance charging, with a float charging voltage of 55.2V and a current limit of 0.55A. Power is usually cut off after 2-3 hours in this stage.
Hydrochloric acid batteries don't have very strict requirements. However, it's best to charge them fully for a long time, usually a few hours to fully charge, then leave them on for a few more hours. But be careful, never use a fast charger outside the store the first time. The battery that comes with your new car is a trial battery specially provided by the manufacturer (even reputable manufacturers do this, for profit). These batteries have been used in countless cars, and the manufacturer just keeps repairing them. So, if you bought a new car with this battery, you don't need to worry about it and can charge it however you like. Regardless of the charger, make sure it's damaged within one year and then get it replaced for free. (Of course, if you're not careful, they'll still replace it with a trial battery.) So be careful and keep your eyes open.
If it's a newly purchased battery, then you need to be more careful. However, based on my personal experience, if your battery is 48V 20A, it's best to charge it with a 12A charger (and then charge it with a 20A charger for half an hour after it's fully charged). It will take longer, but it will extend the battery's lifespan. Try to minimize the use of fast charging outside.
Before the first charge, the electric vehicle's battery should be used up, but not completely drained. When you first buy an electric vehicle, the battery won't be fully charged, but it won't be too low either, unless it's an old or low-quality battery. When using it, you should estimate the approximate range based on the seller's estimate to avoid running out of power or overcharging. When the battery indicator shows only one bar remaining, you should consider stopping riding and preparing to charge it.
How to charge a newly purchased electric vehicle for the first time and precautions.
The first charge should ideally be done during the day. Everyone knows that the battery should be fully charged on the first charge, but being fully charged doesn't mean overcharging. Charging during the day makes it easier to control the charging time, preventing overcharging and over-discharging of the battery on its first charge. This allows the initial chemical reactions within the battery to proceed normally.
Regarding the initial charging time, since the electric scooter battery has never undergone charging and discharging before leaving the factory, it's crucial to ensure its proper functioning. Generally, a charging time of 5-6 hours is sufficient to fully charge the battery. Subsequent uses can be charged for slightly longer periods. As mentioned above, charging during the day is recommended.
After the first charge, although it's not exactly the first charge, the second charge is still considered a new car charge. At this point, you can let the battery charge down to almost empty and then charge it for a long time. This charge can last for 8-9 or even 10 hours to allow the battery's chemical reaction to complete a full cycle. This is what the electric car dealer told me.
When charging an electric scooter for the first time, the charger may heat up very quickly and intensely. Therefore, especially in summer, do not place the charger on objects that are prone to heat and combustion, and it is best not to place it on the seat of the electric scooter to prevent fire. Many electric scooters have spontaneously combusted while charging, so please be careful.
