How to activate a lithium-ion battery from hibernation?
1. Charge using a direct power source
If your phone shuts down automatically due to low battery and won't turn on, don't panic. The phone isn't actually broken; it's just that the battery has completely drained. At this point, simply recharge it. It's recommended to use a power adapter rather than a computer port or power bank, as the latter two charge very slowly.
2. Reinsert the battery and charge.
When a smartphone shuts down automatically due to a dead battery and won't turn on, first try charging it in a suitable environment. Cold environments may prevent it from charging properly. Then, remove the lithium-ion battery and reinsert it. Sometimes this method works quite well. When the charging light comes on, it means charging has started. Wait patiently for a while, and it should turn on.
3. Use a universal charging dock to charge.
Place your dead phone on a power source to charge, but don't turn it on immediately. Turning it on also requires power. If charging still doesn't work, you can use a universal charging dock to charge the phone's battery. After a while, the lithium-ion battery will be reactivated, at which point you can switch back to your original charging method.
4. Charge for a while before turning it on.
Regardless of the method used to activate a dormant lithium-ion battery, do not rush to turn it on. Even if the battery has been charged somewhat, it will quickly drain completely upon restarting. It is recommended to charge for half an hour before turning on the phone, and then put it in airplane mode.
Lithium-ion battery activation method
1. Lithium-ion batteries do not require any special activation method; they will activate naturally during normal use. Insisting on using the commonly circulated method of charging for 12 hours three times for activation will actually have no effect.
2. You can activate a mobile phone's lithium-ion battery with an 18650 lithium-ion battery. The voltage of the 18650 lithium-ion battery should not be too high, ideally between 3.3 and 3.7V; otherwise, the charging current will be too high.
3. You can also activate the battery by tapping the positive and negative terminals of a power bank against the positive and negative terminals a few times. Just don't let it stay on for too long. Once activated, it will have voltage and can be charged normally.
4. Discharge or resistor discharge methods can be used. When using discharge, it should be done to the point where it stops immediately upon power-on. For resistor discharge, a small light bulb connected to the appropriate voltage can be used to discharge for an extended period of time until the light bulb immediately turns off upon connection.
5. Try fast charging for one to two hours and use a professional tester to check if the voltage has increased. If it has increased, you can choose to continue charging with the original charger, which can activate the battery.
For lithium-ion batteries that haven't been used for a long time, you won't be able to measure the voltage with a multimeter, and you won't be able to charge them with a mobile phone or universal charger. Many people might think the battery is broken, but in fact, the battery may not be damaged at this time; it may just have entered a dormant mode.
Due to self-discharge, the voltage of a lithium-ion battery will gradually decrease. When the voltage is lower than the minimum threshold voltage set by the protection board of the lithium-ion battery, the power output will be automatically cut off, and the lithium-ion battery will enter a dormant mode.
