How to maintain a lithium-ion battery electric vehicle

(1) When the battery level drops below 30% during use, it should be charged in time. Long-term deep discharge or shallow discharge will affect the battery performance. The battery performance is best when the battery level is 70% depleted.

(2) When riding over bridges, uphill, against the wind, or with a passenger, you should use human power to assist in riding. This will prevent the large current from affecting the battery and increase the driving range. When starting an electric vehicle, you should use human power first, and then use electric power after you have a certain speed. This will prevent the large current from affecting the battery, motor, and driver, increase the driving range, and extend the service life.

(3) Consumers should perform a deep discharge approximately every two months, if possible. Method: Ride until the power is forcibly cut off, turn off the power, ride home manually, and then fully charge the battery. If the battery is not used for a long time and is stored fully charged, it needs to be recharged periodically. During storage, the battery's self-discharge capacity will gradually decrease; if it is not replenished in time, its performance will be affected. It is recommended to recharge every three months. The battery pack capacity was measured at a normal temperature of 25℃. Therefore, a slight decrease in battery capacity and mileage in winter is considered normal. It is recommended to charge the battery pack in a warmer environment during winter to ensure it is fully charged.

Avoid prolonged or deep charging, as this can lead to overcharging. Lithium-ion batteries and chargers automatically stop charging once the battery is fully charged; there is no continuous trickle charging for 10+ hours as claimed by nickel-cadmium chargers. In other words, leaving your lithium-ion battery on the charger after it's fully charged is pointless.

Avoid overcharging and over-discharging. Over-discharging or self-discharge at low voltage can cause the lithium-ion active materials to decompose and be destroyed, and may not be reversible. Any form of overcharging of a lithium-ion battery will severely damage its performance and may even lead to an explosion. Overcharging of lithium-ion batteries must be prevented during the charging process.

Since lithium-ion batteries are memory-free, it is recommended that users regularly charge or top up the battery pack after each or daily ride. This will significantly extend the battery pack's lifespan. It is advised not to ride until the battery pack can no longer discharge before recharging, and it is not recommended to discharge the battery beyond 90% of its capacity.
