What are some common problems with lithium batteries in electric vehicles?

There are five major problems with lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles that you should be aware of.

1. Overcharging can cause the battery to swell;

2. Over-discharging will damage battery life, and the damage is irreversible;

3. Excessive current during discharge can also damage the battery, and this damage is irreversible.

4. Lithium-ion battery packs for electric vehicles are composed of multiple cells connected in series and parallel. The consistency of the cells is very important. Although the manufacturers have matched the cells, the voltage of each cell in the battery pack will be inconsistent due to the error of the cells during long-term use. This will cause the energy output of the entire battery pack to decrease, and then problems such as sudden power outage, sudden reduction in range, incomplete charging, and incomplete discharging will occur.

5. Lithium-ion batteries are very sensitive to environmental conditions. If the temperature is too high or too low, the self-discharge rate of lithium-ion batteries will be much higher. In particular, high temperature will greatly reduce the battery life.
