What methods can be used to extend the lifespan of lithium batteries?

1. Do not charge for more than 12 hours.

Regarding the activation of lithium-ion batteries, many people believe that the charging time must exceed 12 hours, repeated three times, in order to activate the battery. This claim that the first three charges must be over 12 hours is clearly a continuation of the practice with nickel batteries (such as nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride). Therefore, this claim can be considered a misconception from the outset.

It's best to charge your phone according to the standard time and method, and especially avoid charging for more than 12 hours. Generally, the charging method described in the phone's instruction manual is the standard charging method suitable for that phone.

2. Store lithium-ion batteries in a cool place.

High charging rates and increased temperatures will accelerate battery capacity degradation. If possible, charge the battery to 40% and store it in a cool, dark place. This will allow the battery's protection circuitry to operate during extended storage.

If a fully charged battery is placed at a high temperature, it will cause significant damage. (Therefore, when using a stationary power source, the battery is fully charged, and the temperature is generally between 25-30°C, which will damage the battery and cause its capacity to decrease.)

Do not expose the battery to high or low temperatures. For example, during the hottest days of summer, do not place the phone in direct sunlight or in an air-conditioned room where it is directly exposed to cold air.

3. Prevent the battery from being completely depleted before recharging.

A battery's lifespan depends on the number of charge-discharge cycles. A lithium-ion battery can typically be charged and discharged about 500 times before its performance significantly decreases. It's important to avoid completely depleting the battery before recharging, as this will gradually reduce its performance and standby time with each charge cycle.
