(1) Standard charging method: Charge at a constant current of 0.2C5 until the battery terminal voltage is 4.20V, then switch to constant voltage charging until the charging current is <0.01C5, which is considered as fully charged.
The standard charging method is often used for battery capacity calibration, but it is rarely used in daily use because the charging is too slow.
(2) Fast charging method: Charge at a constant current of 1C5 until the battery terminal voltage is 4.20V, then switch to constant current charging until the charging current is <0.01C5.
From both a theoretical and practical perspective, the effect of using a lithium-ion battery before recharging or recharging before using it for the first time is exactly the same. However, there is a boundary: batteries manufactured more than six months ago should ideally be charged first, as their charge level will be too low at this point.
Furthermore, lithium-ion battery phones and chargers automatically stop charging once the battery is fully charged; there is no trickle charging for over 10 hours as claimed by nickel-cadmium chargers. In other words, leaving your lithium-ion battery on the charger after it's fully charged is pointless.
Activating a lithium-ion battery doesn't require any special method; it will activate naturally during normal phone use. Insisting on using the commonly circulated method of charging for three consecutive 12-hour sessions to activate it will actually be ineffective. When charging a lithium-ion battery for the first time, disconnect the battery from the charger once it's fully charged. Lithium-ion batteries automatically stop charging after a temporary full charge because they have PMC (Protective Phase Control) protection and do not have prolonged trickle charging. This is a key difference between lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Therefore, this is something to be mindful of when charging.
