Underwater robot battery selection

2026-04-06 04:55:12 · · #1

When choosing batteries for underwater robots, many manufacturers are unsure which type to select, as each battery has its own strengths. This makes battery selection a challenging process. So, how should one choose the right battery for an underwater robot?

The choice of battery type for underwater robots is almost straightforward; lithium batteries are the dominant choice. So, which types of batteries should be selected for underwater robots?

1. Battery manufacturing process

Currently, battery manufacturing processes are divided into winding and stacking processes. Compared to wound structures, stacked batteries have better cycle characteristics, safety characteristics, and energy density, and a more uniform reaction interface. Stacked structures offer more uniform current density, superior internal heat dissipation, and are more suitable for high-power discharge. While wound batteries are mature, stable, and efficient in the production of small-capacity, small-size batteries, their process stability is insufficient for large-size electrode winding. In other words, the higher the capacity and the larger the electrode size, the worse the efficiency and stability of the winding process. Stacking processes, on the other hand, are more suitable for the production of large-capacity, large-area electrodes.

2. Cell quality

A battery cell refers to a single electrochemical cell containing positive and negative electrodes, and is generally not used directly. A lithium battery consists of a battery cell and a protection circuit board. A battery cell is a semi-finished product; it cannot be used directly as a battery. It only provides power and requires a protection circuit and a casing to form a finished battery. The manufacturing process of the battery cell affects its quality; strict control over the process is essential to ensure quality. If any step—aluminum-plastic film forming, electrolyte injection, pre-sealing, settling, or formation—is not strictly controlled, the quality of the battery cell will be significantly compromised.

3. Battery manufacturer strength

Choosing the right battery for an underwater robot also requires considering the manufacturer's capabilities. Carefully examine the manufacturer's hardware specifications: equipment, facilities, and floor space. Smaller manufacturers may not be able to handle a large workload and lack sufficient resources. Also, look for client case studies and sample displays; these can help gauge a manufacturer's strength. Battery manufacturers capable of designing, developing, and producing battery cells are generally more reliable, indicating better control over battery quality.

Ultimately, the choice of batteries for underwater robots depends on the user's actual needs; the user's actual needs are the most authentic factor in making the best choice.
